Guinness officially recognized the record for the world’s largest gathering of zombies on October 30th, 2010 at the 3rd annual New Jersey Zombie Walk on the Asbury Park Boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Guinness recorded 4,093 zombies at the event.
On July 23rd, 2011 The Dublin Zombie Walk in Dublin, Ireland had an estimated 8,000 Zombies in attendance, but confirmation is still pending from Guinness.
The walk was from the Leeson Street entrance of St Stephens Green to Eustace Street in Temple Bar in order to highlight the work of two worthy causes, the Irish Cancer Society and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). This particular fund-raising exercise was initiated by Dubliner Eamonn Doyle & Pauline Swaine who believed that the sight of 4,000 zombies on the streets of the city will help raise much needed funds for these charities. “The walk is organised with stewards and collectors who will escort the living dead through the streets and ensure that no innocent bystanders get infected! But we hope that people will dip into their pockets and make sure the collectors can deliver some much needed funds to these two charities by the end of the day.” This is a planned annual event so look out for the Dublin Zombie Walk team next year!
